His recent projects have been exhibited at the Corning Museum of Glass (Corning, NY), Practice Gallery (Philadelphia, PA), S12 Galleri (Bergen, Norway), Weston Art Gallery (Cincinnati, OH), Roy G Biv (Columbus, OH), Hawk Galleries (Columbus, OH), The Sculpture Center (Cleveland, OH), and the Museum of American Glass (Millville, NJ). He holds a BFA from Ohio State University (2008), and an MFA from Tyler School of Art and Architecture (2015). Nate has been an Emerging Artist in Residence at Pilchuck Glass School in Washington, and a Creative Glass Center of America Fellow at WheatonArts in New Jersey. He was a recipient of the 2020 Saxe Emerging Artist Award from the Glass Art Society, and has received two Individual Excellence Awards from the Ohio Arts Council (2017 & 2021). The presence of this subtle optical distortion is at least partly to blame for conspiracy theories claiming that the Apollo moon landings were actually fictitious productions created in a film studio. My work engages with the language of delusion and speculation in opening up spaces where imagination and perception become tactile and fluid. I am curious about places where experimental attitudes and do-it-yourself ethos come together to foster new kinds of knowledge, envision possible futures and dispute established notions and categories. Through devising absurd systems and exuberant environments, I seek to simultaneously embrace and question our innate curiosity and stubborn artificiality. collaboration with the artist Lindsay Deifik, which exhibited at the Kitchen Table Gallery in Philadelphia, PA. The collaboration offered us the opportunity to work playfully to harmonize our parallel interests in natural phenomena and the apparatuses that constrain them, materiality, and industrious inquiry. Lindsay works mainly with simple sculptural materials, textiles, prints, and drawings; I often utilize glass, kinetic components, found materials, and light, while constantly inventing and sourcing surprising media. As unhinged billionaires write the dominant narratives of a techno-spiritual age, it becomes convenient to believe that they are the latter day messiahs, and we are indeed in need of saving. Engaging playfully with materiality and historicity, Ricciuto creates objects and experimental sites that expose both the subversive qualities and escapist tendencies of fiction. These works seek to uncover and reinterpret motives for operating in the margins, and consider the ways that material contingencies can reflect ideas of otherness. NSG’s electrically conductive TEC glass is commonly used in grocery store refrigerator and freezer applications, where current is applied to heat the surface of the glass and defrost the windows. The arrangement includes a personal sleeping pod that shields the user from electromagnetic waves (Faraday cage), hand cut camouflage utility tarp, and a grouping of devices that playfully approximate homemade optical experiments seeking to prove "flat-earth" theory. Gradually, what was once stable and inert gives way to flux and uncertainty. In this grouping of works, subsidence is imagined as a kind of cognitive dissolution, perceiving effects without being conscious of causes. These objects and environments speculate about belief and mistrust, and wonder about invisible things, systems and processes, that operate in the background, slow and diffuse, the things that fail to capture our attention until it’s too late. “It has been noticed that the proliferation of conspiracy theories, in different times and places, is linked to trust in fact-gathering institutions which have epistemic functions in human lives.
